About the work

Tranquillo Orsi’s large-domed octagonal interior was drawn around 1790–1830. Niches, sculpture and steep perspective turn the room into a piece of theatrical architecture rather than a plausible domestic space. Orsi worked on the interior of Venice’s Teatro La Fenice, and The Met considers this sheet a possible stage design.
