Why we chose it
What drew us in was the way the scene balances human scale with architecture. Small figures, openings, and receding planes give the eye somewhere to travel. It works especially well in a study, reading room, or hallway.
About the artist & work
Tranquillo Orsi’s large-domed octagonal interior was drawn around 1790–1830. Niches, sculpture and steep perspective turn the room into a piece of theatrical architecture rather than a plausible domestic space. Orsi worked on the interior of Venice’s Teatro La Fenice, and The Met considers this sheet a possible stage design.
