About the work
Charles Michel Ange Challe’s 18th-century sheet turns pen, brown ink and layered washes into a sprawling architectural capriccio. Monumental forms rise and recede through a theatrical field of ruins and imagined construction, more concerned with atmosphere and scale than with a building that could ever be built.
