Catalogue Entry.

The Aurora Fern is distinguished by the iridescent colouration displayed along the veins and margins of each mature frond. The phenomenon is present under both direct and overcast light and has not been attributed to surface moisture, mineral deposits, or known structural pigmentation.

Young fronds emerge with ordinary green foliage before gradually acquiring their characteristic blue, green, and violet lustre during maturation. Examination of preserved specimens has shown the colouration to remain visible after drying, though with diminished intensity.

The accompanying plate illustrates a mature frond.

Registrar's Notes

No cultivated specimen has developed the characteristic iridescence following propagation by spore. All authenticated examples exhibiting the phenomenon have been collected from established wild colonies.
