About the work
Carlo Antonio Forti’s ca. 1690 etching was designed for L’Età dell’Oro. Allegorical figures occupy a spectacular stairway suspended among clouds and Baroque architecture; Abundance sits above, while a river goddess and city landscape anchor the lower scene. It is architecture conceived explicitly for a fictional world onstage.
