The Moonflower has never been observed rooted in soil. Every authenticated specimen has been recovered suspended beneath compact masses of cloud, its pale blossoms opening only after sunset and closing before the first hint of dawn. The mechanism by which the plant draws nourishment remains unresolved.

This plate was prepared to record the mature flowering stage in full, including the distinctive cloud-root structure omitted from earlier botanical surveys. The remarkable condition of the specimen allowed every vein, tendril and blossom to be documented without artistic reconstruction.

Registrar's Notes

Several expeditions have attempted to cultivate the species at ground level. None have reported success.
