About the work
Joris Hoefnagel made this tiny 1589 bouquet as a remarkably intimate work of natural observation. Flowers assembled from individual studies are surrounded by a snail, butterflies and insects, while a Latin inscription identifies the drawing as a monument of love made for his mother.
